Budweiser’s global commitment to dance music in the recent years has led to the beer brand’s increased involvement in the South African music circuit. In a span of just over a year, Budweiser has sunk its teeth into the local scene by bringing The Lab Johannesburg to Mzansi.
With BUDx, the brand aims to consolidate all its diverse commitments into one whole: over the course of the Lab Johannesburg residency, the event serves as a platform for budding talent to seize the moment and take their careers to the next level while rubbing shoulders with and playing alongside veteran artists.
For fans of underground electronic dance music, BUDx Lab Johannesburg’s 5th edition was a music haven where they witnessed engaging sets by both Kid Fonque and Shimza. Kid Fonque kicked the night off by skilfully playing with tempos, breakbeats and old-school synths to create a wholesome vibe. Shimza’s set was intriguing in the way it managed to combine the subtle and the loud to create a unique mood palette.
If BUDx Lab Johannesburg aimed to provide a space to the major stakeholders in South Africa’s growing electronic dance music circuit to engage with each other in a relaxed setting with free-flowing Buds then it did its job well.
