The channel’s newest presenter will also get to interview some of the biggest music stars in the world at international award shows (such as the Video Music Awards (VMAs), European Music Awards (EMAs) and The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) and attend the best parties in South Africa. The prize includes an Edgars Active voucher to the value of R20 000 and accessories from Jabari.
The victor will be crowned at the MTV Base VJ Search finale party hosted by MTV Base in partnership with Breezer at Icon in Soweto on Sunday, 27 August. On the bill are Da Les and DJs PH, Ayanda MVP, Vigilante, Milkshake, Mo Flava, Shimza and DBN GoGo.
This week’s episode of MTV Base VJ Search started with four contestants who partied in true VIP style in the front row of US star French Montana’s recent concert. Little did they know they were about to get a taste of what it is like to party hard, while having an early call time, when they were woken up unexpectedly by the show’s host and current VJ Sandile Ntshingila to take part in some gruelling challenges.
These included testing their styling techniques and interviewing skills, even in unconventional venues such as a gym session with BET A-List host Jesse Suntele. Additionally they had to deliver a link while bungee jumping and visited the Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa) headquarters where they had to shoot a link on the set of NewsIsh. There was an unexpected twist as a python made a cameo on the show.
This took place under the watchful eyes of judges Nomalanga Shozi, Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha and Thomas Gumede. In the end, it was Siya Deli who made his departure. Comments Monde Twala, Vice President for BET, Youth and Music for (VIMN) Africa:
“The MTV Base VJ Search format provides an opportunity to open up the industry for young hopefuls. MTV’s ability to discover and elevate talent on the continent remains a primary brand focus. We have incredible success stories such as actress, Nomzamo Mbatha, who recently flew to Los Angeles in June to co-host our annual BET Awards, and Lip Sync Battle Africa host Pearl Thusi, who has gone on to star in the US hit series Quantico.”
